Batwoman is undergoing quite the change going into season 2, as previous leading lady Ruby Rose left the role of Kate Kane due to a variety of reasons.
Now God Friended Me and MacGyver actress Javica Leslie is playing a new character called Ryan Wilder, who takes on the Batwoman mantle to defend Gotham City and punch bad guys and that sort of thing.
The CW have been airing a new teaser that mostly features clips of season 1 to try and get you to catch up on the story so far on their (US-only) app, but there are a few cheeky clips of season 2 with Javica in action.
The new footage shows Ryan holding up Kate’s batsuit (she’ll get her own later on), and scaring a baddie by popping up behind them, upside down, and giving them a cheeky “boo!”
It’s a short glimpse, but shows us that this new Batwoman is more fun and light-hearted than before. Between the hanging upside down and the quip, we are getting some Spider-Man vibes, which we are always here for.
Speaking about why it was important her Batwoman has a distinctive look from Ruby Rose’s, Javica said: “I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman – it’s her style, her swag, and her moment.
“I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”
Batwoman will return for season 2 on Sunday, January 17 on The CW in the US. E4 airs the series in the UK.
